A cook with forearms like my uncle's was at the pass when we claimed the counter seats, and watching him settled the meal before it began. Sant Antoni changes by the week, yet this kitchen still shops at the market next door and you can see it in the hands: produce dressed no further than it needs, the season allowed to speak plainly. From the counter you catch everything, the timing, the quiet word between stations, the calm that only assured cooking affords. Nobody performs. They feed you, properly, at a price that respects the work on both sides of the bar. My companion said it felt like eating in a friend's kitchen where the friend happens to be very good, and I could not better that. This has stopped being an occasional address for me; it has folded itself into the month, and the counter is where I ask to sit.
Order this: Whatever the market sent over that day, cooked plainly.

Sant Antoni's market sits next door, and the kitchen cooks as if it never lets that out of its sight. The star turn isn't any single dish; it's the shopping. Vegetables at their exact moment, produce left largely alone on the plate, everything picked by hand and by season. You can taste the buying as much as the cooking. I go back the way one goes back to a good butcher: regularly, and on principle.
The room is plain in the best sense: tables you can lean on, nothing on the walls asking for attention. Step outside and Sant Antoni market is right there, which tells you how this kitchen shops. What the stalls have is what you eat, handled with respect and not much else. I find myself back most months without planning it, and from me that counts as praise.
Honestly? Better the second time. On my first visit I liked it well enough; the return trip made it click. This kitchen shops the market next door in Sant Antoni and you can taste it, vegetables from the right week, dishes dressed up no further than they need. No swagger, fair prices, real flavor. It has slid neatly into my monthly rotation and I don't see it leaving.
Inside, the room feels like a spare stall of the market next door, and on a wet autumn Tuesday that was precisely the comfort I wanted. Mushrooms and the first squash of the season, cooked with the lightest touch and plainly bought that morning. Honest Catalan cooking at an honest price. It has already slotted into my month, somewhere between the shopping and the rain.
