Our take

I'll confess the real reason I first booked: someone told me the lunches here run long, and I wanted to see whether a kitchen this serious would let a table sit all afternoon. It does. The linen is worn soft, the glasses have lived a little, and nobody hovers waiting to reset your corner of the room. From that comfortable seat you eat Galicia meeting the Mediterranean: whichever fish the market offered that morning, handled with a northern gentleness that trusts good product completely. Che meraviglia, a kitchen that reaches without losing its balance. The welcome is warm and the pace unhurried; the cost, while not small, matches what arrives at the table. Closed Monday and Tuesday, so aim for the end of the week, book late, and stay. My next long lunch there is already half planned.

Order this: The day's market fish, treated the Galician way; it needs nothing else.

Halfway through the fish my husband went quiet, and he is not a quiet man. Weeks later that is the plate I am still thinking about: northern instinct, Mediterranean ease in the seasoning, the raw material given the final word. Galicia and this coast make good neighbours when the kitchen keeps its balance, and this one does. Dinner costs what it costs; I felt none of it wasted.

Booking took two attempts, which in the Eixample counts as encouraging. First ten minutes: a proper greeting, a table without a wobble, bread and a glass of white down before the coats are off. Galicia and the Mediterranean share the menu without squabbling, and the kitchen keeps its footing even when it reaches. Prices sit on the right side of reasonable. I was planning the next visit before the coffee arrived.

Nothing on this stretch of the Eixample announces it; traffic files past and the pavement minds its own business. Inside, the crowd says more than any sign could: locals mid-conversation, tables held without ceremony, people who clearly come back often. Galician instinct meets Mediterranean produce, and the marriage holds. Not cheap, though the value is straightforward and the fish is shown respect. I am back at that table most seasons, and I always eat well.
