Our take
Outside, the Raval carries on as ever: scooters, noise, a man selling phone cases. Step through the door and the century changes. White cloths, good glass, a hush that lets the plates do the talking. But look around, because the other tables tell you everything. Couples who have clearly been coming for decades. A family with three generations arguing happily over dessert (the grandmother won). Not one person photographing their food. These are people who came to eat, and the kitchen honours them with Catalan cooking of the old, serious kind, built each morning on what the market offered. The service reads the table the way my nonna read a room, knowing who wants conversation and who wants peace. I left slow and content, as a long lunch should leave you. Every few months I will need this again.
