Our take

Let me be blunt: I walked down to the Port Olímpic braced to be fleeced, and left wanting to apologise. This is Catalan marinera cooking done as though the marina's reputation did not exist: the day's catch given its due, rice with genuine depth, a kitchen that knows the sea rather than merely selling views of it. On that stretch the bill is the true test, and it passed. Not a small number, no, but every line of it accounted for on the plate, which is rarer along the front than anywhere else in the city. Take a table facing the boats and let the afternoon stretch; this is built for the long lunch. I only find myself out that way occasionally, yet each time I do, the money feels traded, not taken, and that sensation alone brings me back.

Order this: The rice of the day, with whatever came off the boats that morning.

Rooms this close to the Port Olímpic usually promise tired fish at hopeful prices; this one breaks the habit. The quarter outside is all rental bikes and rollerblades, yet the kitchen respects the sea: arroces, the day's catch, cooking done with more care than the location suggests. I do not find myself in this part of town often. When I do, I now know where to sit.

Rice arrived looking like it had been cooked by someone paying attention, which near Port Olímpic is not a given. But let's talk wine, because the pours were handled with actual thought: whites served cold, matched to the seafood, nobody trying to upsell me. The kitchen respects the day's catch and the glass keeps pace. Not flawless, and the tab leans upward, but I left less cynical than I walked in.

Two o'clock, sun on the water, a rice for the table already on its way: this is the hour to be here. At night the Port Olímpic puts on its worst self, but lunch belongs to people who came for the fish, and the kitchen treats the day's catch with more respect than the postcode suggests it might. Come early, eat whatever the boats brought in, and leave before the evening changes the mood.
