Our take

Across the table my wife mouthed a single word, bravo, and the kitchen was close enough to see it. That is the gift of a room this small: nothing stands between you and the people cooking for you, so every plate arrives like something passed across a family table, personal and exact. Each dish carries one idea through cleanly, seasoned with a sure hand, creative without ever needing to shout. We were among the last to leave, and I loved the sound of that hour, the low clatter of a kitchen packing down, a conversation near the door that nobody wished to end. Cooking this intimate, at an address in the Dreta de l'Eixample you could visit without ceremony, deserves guarding. I will keep finding reasons to return, more of them than the calendar strictly requires.

Order this: The tasting menu, taken slowly, so the small kitchen can show you its full range.

Something smoky drifted over from the pass and immediately complicated my evening: I'd settled on the lighter of two plates the server had described, and that smell lobbied hard for the richer one. In a space this small you catch everything, which is both the charm and the test, and this kitchen passes it. I went rich. Zero regrets, though somebody back there clearly enjoys watching guests agonize. Personal, precise cooking at close range; I'll be back within the season.

Confession: I booked partly to escape a downpour, which is a shabby reason to enter a kitchen this serious. The weather turned out to be the right excuse. In a room this small nothing sloppy can hide, and nothing sloppy appeared: every dish assembled around a single idea, seasoning judged, textures evidently thought about. A wet Barcelona night rather suits the place, frankly. I intend to be back before the season changes, umbrella or otherwise.

Small rooms expose everything, and this one survives the exposure. Halfway through dinner a sauce was finished beside the table, poured without haste, the spoon wiped, the plate turned so its garnish faced me. Such gestures are either trained or absent. Here the service carries the kitchen's discipline into the room, and each dish is built on one clear idea, then finished as though the idea mattered. Four visits a year would not tire me.
