The room hums at a civilised pitch, busy without shouting, and that balance tells you something about the kitchen behind it. Fish drives everything in this corner of the Esquerra de l'Eixample, and the discipline is audible in what you do not hear: no theatre, no announcements, plates simply landing where they should. Cooking points on seafood are held tight, the seasoning steps back so the fish can speak, and the cleverness stays well short of creativitis. It runs as a tasting menu, so give it time. I find myself back most months, which for a man of my habits is practically a declaration of love. When the noise drops and a sauce holds its line, this is craft repaying whatever attention you bring to it.
Order this: Whatever fish is running that day, at its plainest; that is where the skill lives.

Some kitchens treat fish as a canvas; this one treats it as the whole painting. Up in the Esquerra de l'Eixample everything arrives in a fixed sequence, and the house style is restraint: cooking stopped right where it should be, and salt used like punctuation. Cleverness stays on a short lead. Ask for a taut, saline white and the glass will keep pace with the plates all night. I go monthly when life permits, and life should permit more often.
On a grey, rain-lashed afternoon, the sort Barcelona pretends it never has, the booking felt like a small act of self-care, and the bill at the end like a bargain struck in my favour. It's a tasting menu built around fish, cooking points judged tightly, the seasoning stepping back to let the raw material speak. Warm plates, cold day: I'd eat here monthly and consider it prudent housekeeping.
Outside it's all scooters and double-parked vans, ordinary Esquerra de l'Eixample. Inside, the volume drops to a civilized murmur, which matters when dinner is a long, fish-driven tasting menu. You can actually talk. The cooking is disciplined, seasoned so the seafood leads rather than the cleverness. I go back more often than my budget strictly approves, and the hush is half the reason.
