Our take
Some wine bars are living rooms; this one is a front-row pew. La Vinya del Senyor faces the great basilica of the Born, and the setting does half the pouring: stone still holding the day's heat, the square trading shoppers for strollers as the light drops. The list leans classic rather than natural, broad in reach and generous about opening bottles for a single glass; most nights something on it justifies crossing town. Crowds found the place long ago, admittedly, and at busy hours you feel it. Still, the final sip is what I come for: the end of a Catalan white as the façade dims, ten unhurried minutes before the city reclaims you. One evening a year, kept free of anything afterwards.
Order this: Whichever Catalan white they're proudest of, taken slowly while the square empties.

The panel — every critic who went
Unanimous — all agreeCrossing half the old city to get here is part of the ritual, and the square this bar sits on remains among the finest places in Barcelona to hold a glass and do absolutely nothing. The list runs broad and generous by the glass, more classic than fashionable, and better than a landmark needs to be. Fame shows in the crowd, inevitably. Even so, an unhurried hour out there every so often restores my patience with the entire district.
Honest opinion: this bar is better than it needs to be. With a terrace like that, they could pour anything and still fill every table; instead the list is broad, the by-the-glass reach generous, and my second visit found the same care as my first, only with more people around. It leans classic rather than natural, but it's chosen by someone who tastes. A yearly ritual, then: sit outside, keep it simple.
