The bill was smaller than my curiosity, which tells you most of what Masa is: a little Poblenou room where wine costs sensibly and behaves unpredictably. If there's a star product it is the just-opened bottle, whichever that happens to be, poured by hands that plainly care and offered with more conviction than explanation. The list is a bit wayward, more personality than polish. Some nights that gamble pays handsomely; mine paid in modest coin, good company but nothing I've thought about since. So it stays an occasional stop rather than a habit. Still, there is an honesty to a spot the neighbourhood keeps quiet about, and patience gets rewarded here often enough. Come curious, let the place lead, and don't watch the clock.
Order this: A glass of the bottle just opened, sight unseen.

Polish is overrated. Masa proves the point, mostly: a small Sant Martí room where the pours are personal and a little unpredictable, and the crowd is the neighbourhood itself, regulars at the counter, nobody performing for anyone. I admire the honesty more than I crave the bottles, so my visits stay rare. Still, watching locals be led glass by glass has its own quiet pleasure. Arrive curious and without a plan.
You can still get a table at short notice, which says more about Sant Martí's discretion than about the wine. The room is tiny and its noise entirely human: corks, low talk, stools scraping at the counter, no playlist fighting anyone. I'll admit Masa is loved more warmly than I quite manage; the pours are personal to the point of unpredictable, and the charm depends on your mood that night. A few times a year I give it an evening, and patience is usually repaid.
