A board of charcuterie, sliced while we waited, taught me more about this place than anything else that evening. The woman at the counter stopped halfway through, decided her first cut was too thick, and began again without a word. That's the service moment I keep: a small correction nobody asked for. Múrria is really a grocery from another century with a tasting bar attached, and it behaves like one. You graze rather than dine, and the pleasure sits in the sourcing more than the cooking; textures arrive as the producers intended, at sensible temperatures, which counts for more than it should. Nothing quickened my pulse, and the room doesn't ask it to. An easy hour with a glass and good things on bread, in a space that stopped needing to try long ago. Once a year is about right, and I mean that kindly.
Order this: A mixed board of charcuterie and cheese, cut at the counter, with whatever they pour alongside.

No pudding for me, and no second glass either; the evening hadn't quite earned the extension. What it had earned was a painless settling-up: the bill came promptly, asked nothing cheeky, and I was on the pavement without that faint sense of having been managed. Pleasant, unhurried cooking in a room that gave up showing off years ago, and is rather nicer for it. Annually will do.
The room at Múrria has that lived-in ease you can't fake, and on a drizzly February afternoon it felt like the right amount of shelter. Not one plate quickened my pulse, and not one annoyed me. Plain food at fair prices, an hour that slipped by pleasantly. Some places are for building an evening around. This one's for waiting out the rain, and it does that nicely.
My table wobbled until I wedged a napkin under one leg, and nobody hurried over, which turned out to suit the mood. It was a grey, drizzling day in the Eixample, and Múrria's easygoing room made decent shelter. The food is pleasant and unremarkable in equal measure, the value fair, the hour easily passed. Nothing quickened my pulse. When the weather next turns foul, I may remember it.
