Our take
Confession: I nearly cancelled the booking. Sant Gervasi on a weeknight rarely promises much fun, and Amigó looked as sleepy as ever. Then the meal began, and the tempo settled the question. Nothing rushed, nothing dawdling; each plate arrived just as the previous one finished speaking, a rarer skill than most kitchens will admit. The room stays polished without tipping into preciousness, the service moves at the speed of conversation, and the seasonal main let the cooks show what they can really do. Allora, is this a table I dream about? No. It is a table I trust, and uptown that counts double. The bill matched the standard fairly. I will return when the season turns, perhaps for a long lunch, and I suspect the pauses between courses will please me as much as the plates.
Order this: Whatever the season's main is that week; give it time and a glass of red.

The panel — every critic who went
Unanimous — all agreeWhen the bill came I checked it twice, in its favour; fair dealing of a kind this part of town seldom manages. The wine deserves its own mention: correct glasses, generous pours, a list assembled by someone who drinks rather than decorates, bottles priced without the usual ambush. A local of the better sort. I shall not cross the city often for it, but when the calendar comes round, gladly.
Uptown Barcelona does the grown-up local well when it bothers, and this is one of the better examples. The room stays civilised without being hushed, the noise pitched so you can hear both your companion and your own thoughts, which sounds a small thing until you have spent a week in louder places. I don't pass this way often, so my visits are annual at best, but they are made gladly.
Rain was hammering the avenue when I ducked in, and Piedra turned out to be exactly where you want to wait out a storm uptown. Grown-up local energy, zero scene, conversations that get to end properly. The food didn't blow my mind, but it never stumbled either, and the room does the heavy lifting. I'd file it under once-a-year, ideally with rain.
