Our take
The bill lands lighter than the queue outside suggests, and that is the fairest thing I can say about the place. This is pizza with ambitions, dough and sourcing fussed over with an earnestness that would grate if the results were not genuinely good (they are). The base has proper structure, char where char belongs, toppings restrained enough to mean something. And yet, settling up, I felt what I always feel here: a fair price paid for a very well made pizza that is still, at heart, a pizza. The room is full of people who plainly knew about it before I did, and good luck to them. For me it is an annual pleasure rather than a habit; admire the craft, finish your glass, and give the table to the next believer.
Order this: A wood-fired pizza with a couple of considered toppings; no need to gild it.

The panel — every critic who went
Unanimous — all agreeThere's a level of earnestness about the dough and the sourcing that could grate, if the results were less persuasive. They are not. This is pizza taken seriously without apology, and the bill stays gentle for the Eixample, which softens any eye-rolling considerably. About once a year I give in, leave full and lightly amused, and concede that fussing over flour is forgivable when you can taste exactly where the fuss went.
Half past four was when I finally surfaced, which for lunch in a pizzeria says rather a lot. The door had been the first surprise: a genuine greeting, a table offered without fuss, none of the elbowing one braces for at fashionable dough temples. The reverence lavished on sourcing would try my patience were the pizzas ordinary; frankly, they are anything but. Whether pizza has earned this degree of liturgy, I couldn't tell you. Another look in a year will do nicely.
