Our take

Steam hit my glasses before the bowl even landed, and for a second Gràcia felt like a Tokyo side street. The ramen here is the tight-focus kind: rich broth, springy noodles, a short menu that refuses to sprawl. But the moment I keep thinking about was smaller. I'd over-ordered sides, obviously, and our server paused, looked at the spread, and gently suggested I didn't need half of it. She was right. That kind of candor is rarer than good broth. Destination dining? No. It's a swift, satisfying lunch, best when the weather turns and you cannot face one more plate of jamón. They close Sunday and Monday, which has burned me twice. An annual craving, more or less, but a reliable one.

Order this: The house ramen; skip half the sides, you won't need them.

Behind the counter a cook was lifting noodles with total indifference to the queue, and that settled my deliberations: whatever he was making, I wanted. Choosing here is mercifully quick, the menu tight, ramen the point and everything else supporting cast. The bowl arrived hot, deep, unfussy. Not somewhere to linger, and the drinking won't detain you, but for a fast, warming lunch on a raw grey day, it earns its keep.

A bowl of ramen, deep and steaming, with everything else in this Gràcia bar arranged around it. The drinks are an afterthought and rightly so: a beer, a tea, nothing that competes with the broth. That focus I understand from home, one thing done properly beats six done by half. Not a spot for lingering over wine, but one visit a winter sets me right.

For a moment I hovered over the edges of the menu, then admitted why I had climbed to Gràcia at all: the bowl, obviously. Deciding what to order here is mercifully brief, the list kept short by a kitchen that has spent its hours on depth rather than breadth. Broth with real patience in it, no frills to speak of, a swift and restorative lunch at a price that raises no eyebrows. I save it for the week the weather turns on me.
