Our take
You can't book, unless you're a crowd, so you push the door and take your chances, and that suits the place. Vertical runs on natural wine without making a manifesto of it: living pours, unfiltered bottles, growers I recognise and rate. The room asks nothing of you. Nobody lectures you on sediment, nobody hovers. My complaint is a small one: the list is sound but it seldom startles. I kept waiting for the glass that would make me grab my friend's arm, and it never quite came. That matters to me, though maybe not to you; an easy, well-chosen glass in a low-lit room is its own kind of evening. I'll drift back the way you do to a bar with no bookings, now and then, when I'm passing.
Order this: Ask for a light red served cool, the kind that goes down easy of an evening.

The panel — every critic who went
Divisive — the panel splitsOutside, one of those flat November afternoons when the traffic seems louder than it is, and a living glass of something felt like the answer. It half was. Vertical pours with honesty and keeps its natural leanings quiet, which suits me, yet nothing in the glass startled and nothing in the room asked us to linger. I drank well enough, settled up, stepped back into the traffic.
The woman behind the bar remembered what I'd drunk on my first visit, which was more than the list itself managed. Second time round, same conclusion: clean natural pours, nothing off, nothing that made me sit up either. Plenty of people leave this room glowing; I leave content, and the gap between those two matters. A fine glass in a calm space, no fuss, no performance. I'll call back eventually, without urgency.
Each critic scores, verdicts and writes independently after their own visits. Where they disagree, we leave it on the page.
